The 2016 Ron Johnson SCM AZ State Championships were held over the weekend, where A3 Performer Darian Townsend added FIVE more Master's World Records to his impressive resume. Coming off his first US Olympic Trials this past July, Darian did not let up on his training or racing. Assistant Coach for the Westside Silver Fins, and a regular Master's swimmer, Darian spends most of his days at the pool and can't seem to get away from the sport (thank goodness!). After a lot of hard training, Darian gave himself about a week's worth of rest and then got after it in competition last weekend, setting five master's World Records for the 30-34 male age group. His World Records are as follows:
  • 100-meter butterfly - 52.4
  • 400-meter individual medley - 4:15
  • 50-meter backstroke - 24.5
  • 100-meter individual medley - 53.28
  • 200-meter individual medley - 1:56.9
In addition to his five World Records, Darian also set one USMS National Record in the 50-meter freestyle with a final time of 21.91. Since starting Master's Swimming, Darian has broke 27 Master's World Records in SCY, SCM, and LCM. We cannot wait to see Darian break more World Records, because it's going to happen. Congratulations Darian! Keep up the good work!
